Thanksgiving News!

Happy Harvest Day and Pie Day! We had a great morning learning about Thanksgiving! We also enjoyed some yummy pie together in the afternoon!
















Reading: We focused on Summarizing. We learned to listen for the characters, what they want to do, the problem, and solution. We practiced summarizing as a class, with partners, and on our own.

Writing: We continued writing poems. This week we learned to focus on the words in our poems. We tried to pick words that really fit the meaning of our poem.

Math: We finished our unit on subtraction. We focused on word problems and how to find the key words so that we know what we need to do. We also took our Chapter 4 Test.

Bible: We finished learning about Christmas! We learned about the Wise Men coming to visit Jesus and how God protected baby Jesus from King Herod.

Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: rejoice, good-bye, point, cool, room, stood, toy, noise, football, enjoy, join, shook, coin, too, they, alike

2. Bible Verse: And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." Mark 1:11

3. There is no school tomorrow through Friday. Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break!

4. The Elementary Christmas Program will be Wednesday, December 6th. That will also be a half day of school with classes ending at 12:30.

Friday News 11/10

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We continued learning about Predictions. We practiced making predictions with a partner and by ourselves while reading.

Writing: This week we wrote poems! We learned how to take a big feeling and put it into a small moment for our poems.















Math: We continued learning about two-digit subtraction. We practiced subtracting by learning some poems to help us know when to regroup.















Bible: We continued learning about Jesus' birth. We learned how Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. We also learned about the first people to hear about Jesus' birth, the shepherds, and how they shared with everyone the good news. We also learned about Simeon and Ana who waited many years to meet Jesus. They taught us to wait patiently for the things that God has promised us.

Phonics: We learned about homophones (words that sound the same, but are spelled different). We each drew some homophones and then practiced them with different games.















Important Information:

Please note that we will be taking our Spelling Test and Bible Test on Monday, November 20th
1. Spelling Words: This week is a review week for spelling. Our words are: neighbor, children, enough, weigh, peace, railway, praise, eight, breeze, hundred, been, use, know, leave

2. Memory Verse: Where is the child who has been born to be king of the Jews? When we were in the east, we saw his star. Now we have come to worship him. Matthew 2:2

3. Walkathon is this Saturday! Please arrive by 8:30 to be ready to walk at 9:00. The Holiday Market will also be on Saturday from 10am-2pm.

4. There is no school on Monday!

Friday News 11/3

We had a great Parent Teacher Conference today! I enjoyed getting to meet with all of you and talk about the progress that your student has made so far in 2nd grade!

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We learned how to make predictions while reading a story. We learned to use the clues in the pictures and the words to make a guess about what is going to happen next.


Writing: We started our second unit on Poetry. This week we learned how to see things through the eyes of a poet. We looked at ordinary objects and wrote down what they made us think of.












Math: We started our unit on two-digit subtraction. We practiced borrowing from the tens to be able to subtract.

Bible: We learned about the angel visiting Zechariah to tell him that he was going to have a baby. We also learned about the angel visiting Mary to tell her that she was going to give birth to God's Son, Jesus and that He would save His people from their sins.

Social Studies: We took an "airplane ride" to Argentina! We learned about some interesting places, the food, and the people of Miss Guiles' home country.
